Volunteers are an essential part of the bike-dump. No mechanical experience is necessary! We welcome people of all ages and experience levels and provide periodic training for volunteers on mechanical as well as social topics. Tasks done by volunteers include:
- Helping teach bike-repairs
- Greeting people and introducing them to the bike-dump
- Cleaning up the shop
- Sorting parts
- Stripping or fixing bikes
- Teaching workshops
Volunteers who make a commitment to the shop are welcome to come to monthly meetings and participate in our decision making process.
If you would like to volunteer, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or speak to the greeter during an open shop day. You can also download and complete the pdf form at the bottom of this page and send it back to us.
Volunteer Only Night
To show our appreciation for committed volunteers we have open shop hours dedicated for your use. If you have volunteered 1-2 shifts in the previous month (or equivalent non-mechanic volunteer hours) come out to Volunteer Night on Thursdays from 6-9 to work on your bike repairs.
Volunteer Night can also be a useful time for new volunteers to learn mechanic skills by stripping bikes or building up new ones that we can then sell. Experienced mechanics are often on hand to answer questions and reference books are always available to help you out.
